Self-heating protection that holds a Group 1 pack inside its usable window down to −60°F. An aircraft that has been sitting out overnight launches on the first attempt, at the endurance the operator was briefed on.

02 / ThesisCapacity disappears
Lithium chemistry loses usable energy and refuses charge as temperature drops. Endurance numbers quoted at room temperature do not survive contact with winter.
Contrast betrays position
Dark equipment on snow is the highest-contrast object in the scene. Solar arrays are the worst offender: large, flat, and black by design.
Cold kit is an afterthought
Most small-UAS hardware is qualified temperate and adapted later with tape, foam, and hope. We design from the environment inward.
